Clungunford Village Choir is a fun group of amateur singers who enjoy singing a variety of harmony music together every Wednesday evening. We meet at 7.30 at the Village Hall. Everyone is welcome and there is no singing test to pass before you are allowed in.
You might think this means we set our musical sights pretty low but you’d be wrong. Our Music Director Iain Wright ably supported by our accompanist Steve Bolt selects a range of music for the choir which is designed to stretch them. There is no greater satisfaction than singing through a piece and thinking “I can’t do this” and later finding you can. The other great pleasure of singing with others is that your voice becomes a part of something greater than yourself and that has a pleasure all its own.
But just singing together is not quite enough. There needs to be the challenge of reaching a standard of performance that an audience can pay to enjoy and so we work towards two main ‘shows’ each year. A week or so before Christmas each year, thanks to the generosity of the Roberts family, we perform a secular programme of light-hearted Christmas music and readings in the hall of Clungunford House followed by a buffet supper and drinks. The audience stretches up the stairs. Recent shows have included everything from Elvis Presley songs to Johann Sebastian Bach.
Watch out for more information about future performances.
If you would like to try us out come along and see if you like what we do.
